Nearly a third of a million people find a place to call home within the city of Coventry, which is situated in the West Midlands, north-east of Birmingham.
The city is believed to have sprung up around a Benedictine monastery founded in the 11th century by the Earl of Mercia, whose wife, Lady Godiva, is arguably the more famous (or infamous!) of the couple, thanks to her fabled ride through the city naked.
The market which grew up around the abbey went on to become a bustling mercantile hub and so the town flourished. In it's more recent history Coventry made it's name in first bicycle then automobile manufacture in the late 19th and early 20th century; with such pioneers as Rover plying their trade from the city's industrial district Coventry became an important player in the British motor industry until it's decline in the 70's.
